Home Spa Secrets: Pamper Yourself This Winter by Tammy Kincaid

Pamper Yourself This Winter

Baby its cold outside!  I don’t know about you but as soon as the weather turns cold, I love to pamper myself at home.  Why not set the mood with your favorite scent and try a new soy candle?  Relaxing scents include lavender, citrus or eucalyptus.  Soy candles not only burn cleaner than traditional candles, they also burn slower.

Once the mood is set and before you draw yourself a nice warm bath, pour a hot cup of herbal tea or glass of wine and throw your robe or even your towel into the dryer for around 10 minutes.  Ahh…can you feel the stress melting away?

If winter weather finds your skin feeling dry, even chapped, be sure to find or make a great moisturizer to rejuvenate your skin.  Always start with a great body scrub to assist in exfoliating your skin.  Scrubs are usually made from an abrasive material such as salt or sugar.

One visit to your favorite department or cosmetic store and you can feel a little overwhelmed choosing the best moisturizer for your money.  I suggest if you are not yet familiar with AHAVA you give their Caressing Body Sorbet a try.  This Body Sorbet gives your skin an extra boost of hydration with Dead Sea minerals, vitamins and plant extracts. This refreshing cream-gel quickly absorbs into skin, providing it with pampering moisture leaving your skin supple and protected against environmental damage. The energizing scent of Mandarin and Cedarwood rejuvenates the senses while the vitamin E protects against free radicals ($26).

Seasonal at-home spa treatments can not only be fun to make, but easy on your wallet. Cranberries are fast gaining recognition as a valuable ingredient in natural skin and body care.  Try these easy cranberry inspired treatments as a healthy alternative:

Cranberry Face Mask

“Cranberries have fruit enzymes that help exfoliate dead skin cells, and their acidity makes them a mild astringent,” says Ann Brown, spa director at the Four Seasons Resortin Lake Ozark, Mo., who created this recipe.  Use this treatment twice a month for soft skin.

You’ll need:
1 cup fresh cranberries
1 cup seedless red or green grapes
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
A small bowl and blender

Directions:
Mix ingredients at medium speed for 20 seconds, until they have a paste-like texture. Cover and refrigerate for 45 minutes to thicken.  Remove from the fridge and let sit about 10 minutes.  Spread the mixture on clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area.  Relax for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water.

Keep your lips moist and nourished with this recipe courtesy of http://www.beautylish.com:

Cranberry Lip Balm

10 fresh whole cranberries

1 tablespoon sweet almond oil

1 teaspoon honey

Optional: 1 drop vitamin E oil

Blend all of your ingredients together in a microwave oven-safe bowl, then heat the mixture in the microwave or on the stove until it begins to boil.  Carefully remove from the heat and stir with a metal spool, mashing the berries into a mush.  Let the blend cool for five minutes, and then strain it through a sieve to remove cranberry skins.  Stir again, and then pour the mixture into a small portable container.  Enjoy naturally berry-flavored lips.

There is no reason you can’t enjoy a luxurious spa experience at home.  Have fun experimenting and remember, the products you use on your skin don’t have to be expensive to be effective.
