Dawn Gibbons is the former First Lady of Nevada, and the only one to serve as a state legislator. She championed public awareness for many important causes including: autism, domestic violence, human trafficking, child advocacy, mental health, substance abuse, and the military. She facilitated the popular anti-meth campaign, Crystal Darkness, and helped propel it to statewide, national and worldwide attention.
As a state legislator, Dawn established the Organ Donor and Tissue Task Force along with Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa which is at the UNR Medical School. The Nevada Police Protective Association named her Assemblywoman of the Year. She was honored by the Nevada Women’s Lobby Hall of Fame. Dawn changed the Nevada Constitution twice through two initiative petitions with overwhelming voter approval.
Dawn came to Reno with only a couple of hundred dollars. However, she had a strong work ethic and some fairly big dreams of her own. She graduated from the University of Nevada and became a successful businesswoman in downtown Reno. She also studied Due Process and Role of Administrative Law Judge at the National Judicial College. In addition, Dawn had a radio talk show with Fox News 1270 ‘The Inside Scoop’. She also did a political news segment with Jim Rogers on NBC in Nevada - “Dawn & Jim”. Dawn was SVP of Communications and Government Relations with KSNV NEWS 3, KRNV NEWS 4, and KENV NEWS 10. She was also the Vice President of Development for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Currently, Dawn is Commissioner & Chair of Nevada Transportation Authority.

Gibbons has served on prominent boards as the Desert Research Institute, Reno/Tahoe Airport Authority; Reno Sparks Convention and Visitor’s Authority; Sierra Bank of Nevada; American Red Cross; Women of Diversity; Children’s Cabinet; Westcare; National Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free; Children’s Advocacy Alliance; 10,000 Kids; Positively Kids; Nevada Congressional Awards Committee; Former Chair of American Heart Association, Go Red for Women, and Circle of Red. She also served on the Executive Board of American Heart Association.
Of all her accomplishments the best one is the proud mom of Jimmy Gibbons, a Naval Aviator.
